Northern Australia Biosecurity Intern joins PBRI
In March, the PBRI Members Committee welcomed Northern Australia Biosecurity (NAB) Intern, Toni Fell, as part of the Northern Australia Biosecurity Strategy (NABS) Board Internship Program.
The program provides First Nations people and people living with disability the opportunity to gain practical experience in board and committee governance, helping to build a more diverse, skilled and representative pool of future leaders across northern Australia.
Research consistently shows that diversity strengthens decision-making, fosters innovation, enhances governance, and brings broader perspectives to complex challenges. Programs such as this create opportunities for new voices to contribute and help build stronger organisations and communities.
Toni, who is from the Torres Strait and works in the health sector, joined the committee with a strong interest in governance and community leadership. Through her work with community members, leaders and clients, she has developed a passion for creating positive outcomes and giving back to her community.
Having previously served with the Rotary Club of Thursday Island, Toni sees this internship as an opportunity to further develop her leadership and governance skills while gaining firsthand experience in board and committee processes.
Her aspiration is to one day serve on boards and community organisations, working alongside others who share a commitment to strengthening communities.
